Sermon Reflections
Do Not Steal   7/8 Mar
  • In what ways have you broken the 8th commandment? Bring this before the Lord in humble confession and receive His forgiveness.
  • How will you seek to provide for the needy and contribute to human flourishing with the resources at your disposal?

Do not commit adultery   28 Feb/1 Mar
  1. The seventh commandment, “You shall not commit adultery,” protects "the sacredness of marriage, vulnerable hearts, and our own souls.” Which of these three aspects resonates with you most, and why?
  2. Jesus teaches that adultery begins in the heart and imagination, not just actions. Be honest before God: where's the “battle in the heart” in your life (thoughts, media, online)?
  3. Jesus’ call to “tear out the eye” or “cut off the hand" highlights drastic steps to avoid sin. What practical “radical steps” might the Holy Spirit be prompting you to take toward greater sexual integrity?

Do Not Murder   21/22 Feb
  • According to Genesis 9:6, what is the foundational reason murder is forbidden? How does this contrast with other worldviews today?
  • Can you think of a time when unchecked anger led to destructive thoughts or words?
  • How can the Holy Spirit help you in your response to the negative prohibition and the corresponding positive duty in the 6th commandment?

Honour Your Father and Your Mother   14/15 Feb
  1. The mandate to honour one’s parents is given not only to the Jews under the Old Covenant. The early believers were also exhorted to honour their parents. What did Paul say is our responsibility towards our parents and why is it important to care for them? [ Colossians 3:20, 1 Tim 5:4, 8 ]
  2. The Hebrew word for ‘honour’ means to appreciate and be thankful; to care and support in tangible ways and to be respectful.
    • What are the things your father and your mother had done which you appreciate and are thankful for?
    • In what tangible ways can you further care and provide for your parents’ basic needs?
    • Respecting our parents starts with affirming and acknowledging their strengths and capabilities. List some qualities which you see in your father and mother that are admirable.
  3. Honouring our parents does not mean blindly obeying and doing whatever they want us to do. How does the following teach us on responding to challenging / difficult parental expectations? [ Matt 22: 39, Matt 10:37 ]

Remember the Lord’s Day   7/8 Feb
  1. The fourth commandment begins with "Remember the Sabbath Day." What leads you to forget it (busyness, fear, ambition, or habit)? What simple practice might help you intentionally remember the Lord’s Day each week? Meanwhile, devices subtly distract you from your focus and rest. What boundary might you set for a season?
  2. The Sabbath command beautifully includes rest for children, servants, foreigners, and animals. Reflect on who else might be affected by your decisions—family, staff, colleagues, or helpers—and consider how you can support their experience of God’s rest.
  3. Jesus invites you, saying, “Come to Me… and I will give you rest,” and “Take My yoke upon you.” Consider where in your life you are trying to carry the yoke alone. What might it mean, concretely, to be yoked with Jesus in that area?

Do Not Take the Lord’s Name in Vain   31 Jan/1 Feb
  • In what ways have you (perhaps unintentionally) misused God’s name?
  • What are things you haven’t been doing “in the name of Jesus”, and how is God calling you to make a change?

Do Not Bow Down to Any Graven Image   24/25 Jan
  1. How does the physical posture of bowing (or kneeling) in worship affect the posture of the heart?
  2. How does the sin of idolatry by God’s people mirror the sin of adultery by a spouse?
  3. If we understand how the straying affections of a married person can provoke legitimate jealousy in the aggrieved spouse, how can this help us understand God’s jealousy?

You Shall Have No Other Gods   17/18 Jan
  1. Exodus 20:3 calls for our exclusive allegiance to God. What might "no other gods before Me" look like in our choices about time, priorities, and desires?
  2. Habits, money, success, pleasure, and relationships can subtly become "gods" in our hearts. Which of these pressures do you feel most strongly right now, and what might repentance and re‑ordering your life look like?
  3. Robert Robinson wrote, "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it." Where do you most sense your own heart "wandering," and how can we as a cell group help to bind one another’s hearts more closely to the Lord?

The Ten Commandments for Today   10/11 Jan
  • What difference does it make that the commandments come from “the LORD your God” rather than an impersonal authority?
  • How might our obedience to the commandments distinctively point others to the God we belong to?
  • What does it look like, practically, to rely on the Holy Spirit in our obedience of God’s commandments?
