Sermon Reflections
The Day of Mourning   22/23 Feb
  1. Amos 8 warns of a spiritual famine due to Israel’s sins—exploiting the vulnerable (vv. 4-6), nominal worship (v. 5a), and distorted beliefs (v. 14). Which of these do you think is most relevant to today’s church, and how can we guard ourselves against it?
  2. The Israelites' main issue was self-exaltation. In what ways do we sometimes put ourselves above God or others? How can we cultivate humility in our daily lives?
  3. In what ways might we be ignoring or becoming desensitised to God’s Word in our daily lives? How can you begin obeying God’s Word in everyday life, especially when it is difficult or goes against what you want to do?

A Plumb Line is Set   15/16 Feb
  1. Consider how God relents twice in response to Amos' pleas in Amos 7:1-6. In what ways does this interplay between justice and mercy influence your understanding of God's nature?
  2. What does it mean for you to intercede for others in a world plagued by injustice, idolatry, crisis, and the cries of the people?
  3. If you were to allow Jesus to apply God's plumb line to your life, what one action could you take (to love your neighbour as yourself) this week to embody God's justice and mercy?

Yet You Did Not Return   25/26 Jan

Punishment is Certain   18/19 Jan
  1. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are a chosen people, called to declare His praises. How do we live as God’s people in the world? How do we honour Him in our lives? Are we reflecting His holiness in our lives? Are we a light in the world?
  2. Being chosen by God, does not exclude us from being disciplined by Him. God disciplines us to bring us back to Him. Are there areas in our lives where we have tolerated sin? Are there areas in our lives that we are ignoring God’s voice? Do we listen when He convicts us of sin?
