Dear members and friends of St Andrew’s Cathedral

We are aware of the revised Advisory Guidelines on the PDPA for NRIC and other National Identification Numbers that the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) issued on 31 August 2018. The Diocese of Singapore has released a memo to all Anglican parishes in Singapore on 5 August 2019 providing guidance and recommendations on the subject matter.

Following Diocese of Singapore recommendations, we wish to inform you that with effect from 1 September 2019, St Andrew’s Cathedral will discontinue the collection of NRIC Numbers/Foreign Identification Numbers (“FIN”)/Birth Certificate Numbers/Work Permit Numbers (collectively referred to as “ID” from here on). In its place, we may request for collection of partial ID #s and visual verification of ID, for proof of identity.

As Cathedral has in her current possession ID numbers of members spanning more than several decades, we seek your understanding that we are continuing with the storage of existing IDs in our church database, while we complete the enhancement to our system. We expect to effect the removal/ destruction of the ID numbers stored by Cathedral by 1 November 2019.

We assure you that we will undertake proper safeguarding measures to protect your personal data (including NRIC Numbers/FIN/Birth Certificate Numbers/Work Permit Numbers) under our care.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at dataprotection@cathedral.org.sg should you have any queries or concerns. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to your continuous support!

Regards,
Data Protection Officer
St Andrew’s Cathedral
