Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Will the outreach continue in the event of wet weather?
Yes it will, rain or shine.

  2. What attire should I wear and what should I bring along?
The colour code is red! Wear modest but light and comfortable clothing suitable for higher energy activities. Bring your own water bottle and wear a good quality mask. Covered shoes with good ankle support is recommended.

  3. What happens to the festive packs if the residents are not at home?
Flyers will be distributed to inform them that they can collect the festive packs at the relevant RC.

  4. Why must I be fully vaccinated to join this Christmas Outreach?
For the safety of the residents at the Blocks, the other volunteers and yourself, we need to ensure that everyone involved in the Christmas Outreach is fully vaccinated.

  5. Do I need to produce a negative ART Test result before I participate in the outreach?
We will make this information available as the pandemic situation evolves.

  6. Will food be provided for volunteers?
Please arrange to have a proper meal before the start of our activities.

  7. All the volunteer roles look so interesting, can I volunteer for every role?
While it is possible to volunteer for every role, volunteers should ensure that the time commitment of their roles do not conflict with one another. While we do our best to allow a choice of role for one and all, the ABC team seeks your understanding if we need to reassign manpower as required.

  8. Can I book more than one 1-hr packing slot?
Volunteers are advised to book one 1-hr slot per day, unless they are volunteering in a group, and the whole group decides to book the same multiple slots.  This is to minimise cross contact with multiple people.

  9. My good friend/ family member cannot confirm if they are available yet and registrations are closing. Can they still come along with me anyway since I am already registered?
To avoid disappointment, please let your friends know early and register by the deadline. We will need to maintain an accurate and current list of volunteers and walk-ins are not allowed.

  10. Can my children between 12 and 18 years old join me in volunteering?
Yes, we welcome young people between 12 and 18 years old to be involved in this outreach. Parental consent is required. A form will be provided when your registration form is received. For their safety, we apologise that we cannot allow children below the age of 12 years.

  11. I am not able to attend the Briefing, will I still be able to volunteer?
All briefings will be conducted online via Zoom.  During the briefing, volunteers will be introduced to their role ICs who will explain the operations and logistics flow in detail.  There will be two briefing sessions available, we hope you can attend them.

  12. I can’t walk a lot, but I can provide transport to pick up the Festive Bags from SAC and deliver to the Blocks. Can I still volunteer?
Yes! Everyone can play a role in this outreach. We would be grateful for your help with providing transport to help pick up and deliver the packs to the Blocks, as we have 2,000 packs to transport. We will have Muscle Crew on standby to help with loading and unloading the packs at SAC and at the Blocks. Simply select Volunteer -> Transport Team in the registration form.

  13. Can I make a one-off donation towards this outreach?
Yes you may do so by indicating on the registration form.

  14. Can I donate items on top of what are in the festive packs to the residents at their homes?
Kindly refrain from doing so independently as we try to practice the principle of fairness across the outreach.

  15. Can I donate items towards the outreach?
If you would like to contribute a new item to be included in all the festive packs on top of the existing items and/or donate a portion of the existing items, you may get in touch with us at missions@cathedral.org.sg or WhatsApp 8824 2660 for more information.

  16. Can I offer monetary assistance to the residents?
Kindly refrain from doing so as we do not want to encourage dependence.

  17. Given that we are visiting a lower income estate with many elderly, what happens if we find something out of the ordinary?
Please report it to either your Block IC or the ABC Team.

  18. Is there a guide for how to speak to and engage the residents?
Guidelines, suggestions and do’s and don’ts will be provided closer to the date.

  19. What is our stand concerning prayer for the residents?
Kindly refrain from doing so unless the residents specifically request for prayer.

  20. Can we organise and run activities such as singing and games for the floor(s) we are assigned to?
We will not be doing so for this Christmas Community Outreach.  But we look forward to such activities in future outreaches.  Please get in touch with us with your fun ideas for the residents!
