Sermons & Reflection Questions
A Healthy Church in a Hostile Culture
- Why is God’s sovereignty such an important foundation when the church faces hostility or decline?
- Where do you think Christians in Singapore today are most tempted to compromise biblical truth?
- Do you struggle with accepting correction from biblical truth that challenges your lifestyle or worldview?
- How can you contribute to building a healthier church?
Tell the Coming Generation!
- Psalm 78 shows that raising the next generation is not only the responsibility of parents but of the whole church. What role is God calling you to play in passing on the faith? What are some challenges you might face and how will you seek to overcome them?
- If a young person observed your life during seasons of stress, disappointment, or success, would they see someone whose hope is built on Christ, or on comfort, achievement, approval, or security? Why do you say so? What are the main things you hope the next generation would observe/ what are some changes you need to make in your life in order for you to build your life upon Jesus?
- Who played significant roles in building your spiritual lives? How did they encourage you and what could you learn from them? Pray and think of a young person you could be a spiritual parent to.
Rejoice Always!
- Are personal disagreements or financial concerns robbing you of joy? If so, how is the Lord leading you to respond to His word?
- Which aspects of Paul’s letter to the Philippians have helped you experience God’s joy in greater measure? What steps will you take to bring about further growth?
The Surpassing Worth of Christ
Opening Question
What is one achievement, accomplishment, or milestone that you are most proud of? Why is it significant to you? Is there something you are still striving to achieve in life?
1. Paul says that he considers everything a loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ (Philippians 3:8).
What does it mean for you to know Christ more deeply in this season of your life? Beyond church attendance and ministry involvement, what practices or experiences have helped you grow in your relationship with Him? What challenges have made this pursuit difficult?
2. Paul speaks of a righteousness that comes through faith in Christ rather than through his own efforts (Philippians 3:9).
When you fail, struggle with sin, or feel that you are not measuring up spiritually, how do you typically respond? Do you find yourself trying harder to earn God’s approval, becoming discouraged, or resting in what Christ has already accomplished for you? Share an experience that has helped you better understand God’s grace.
