289 Fellowship of the Manger

Missions to the disadvantaged and marginalised in Batam

Cathedral ministers to the community in the slums of Batam through the 289 Fellowship of the Manger (289 FOTM) ministry which started in 2009, with a children’s ministry and food distribution for the poor. Since then, the ministry has grown steadily, serving the community through food pack distributions, children’s programmes, home visitations, and the implementation of a clean water project in several villages.

Starting in 2025, the Cathedral introduced a different track, with a more intentional discipleship and leadership formation programme, particularly within our deanery churches. In collaboration with the Deanery of Indonesia, we aim to encourage spiritual growth and support the development of Batam’s Anglican congregations toward full parish status. Additional initiatives include strengthening church ministries, expanding outreach to the Chinese-Hokkien community, and establishing a children and youth development and education centre.

2 Corinthians 8:9

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
